Diabetes ialah kelompok dari penyakit metabolik yang ditandai dengan hiperglikemia yang dikarenakan oleh adanya kelainan pada sekresi insulin, kerja insulin, atau keduanya. Hiperglikemia kronis dari diabetes berhubungan dengan kerusakan, disfungsi dan kegagalan jangka panjang dari beberapa organ seperti mata, ginjal, saraf, dan pembuluh darah
